What was the excuse this time? Mosaic Stadium was half empty, or half full depending on how you view things I suppose, for their West Division playoff game against Calgary on Sunday. This, despite the fact it was a very important game and the weather was perfect.
I absolutely agree with you on this 100%. We (my husband and I), will not participate in a "show me your papers" society. We have always been regular supporters of sports and arts & entertainment in this province and do miss being able to enjoy these events but my freedom means more to me than anything and I will not abide by these ridiculous rules. If people are that afraid of Covid, after being vaxxed once or twice, they should just stay home and let the rest of us get on with our lives.

Excellent article! We were extremely loyal fans who did attend the games prior to the passport mandate. It left a bitter taste in my mouth, and I wouldn’t even watch them on TV, though my husband did. I have caved and watched the last couple of games because I couldn’t stay away forever. I will not be, however, buying Rider gear for Christmas and 50/50 draws. My husband returned from visiting our son in the USA this month. He went to a college football game with an attendance of 105,000 people. Not a mask or passport in sight. He then had to spend 14 days locked in our house for wanting to see our son and grandchildren. We don’t know when we will ever be able to see them again.
However, we find that we are in excellent health, we are saving a lot of money by not eating out, going to games and movies. We have excellent friends (vaxxed and unvaxxed) who we spend time with. We are eating better, getting more exercise and getting more involved in charitable work that doesn’t ask for proof of vaccine. I’m sad that the Riders are losing loyal fans, money and credibility, but you are right. They could have turned this tide. It’s simply ridiculous, stories coming out everyday about vaccinated people with Covid (Ontario hockey teams etc) while the vaxxed can go everywhere and can spread it. The unvaxxed stay home . Where has reason gone? I’ve moved on, I may never go to another Rider game, restaurant or movie even if they do away with all this. I like this new life. The only thing that I miss is being able to fly to see family. Thanks again for your article!
I said this from start of season. I got laughed at as I said bringing in this manitory vaccine passport will hurt all clubs. People like u said were saying great we can grab better seats as people wanted their money bk for season tickets. Your article was spot on as what I said from the start. Along with players flying with each other all season playing their hearts out and then told if they make thr grey cup they have to be double vaxed to fly or can't play. Total bullshit by all governments across Canada and the cfl going along with it.

We were the people in your restaurants, on your patios and patronizing your small businesses. My kids used public transit (no social distancing there) and went all over. Feeling stuck now.

It was so much the government mandating vaccination as it was the CFL league. The vaccinated people that were at the game witnessed a great game. Good for them. I applaud their choice to be vaccinated. It is the right thing to do!!
